Indie 103.1 Check 1 2 Mondays @ The Viper Room (Event Over)

This show is the partner to Indie 103.1’s Check One, Two local music show which airs every Sunday from 6-8pm. The Show is hosted by the well known Mark Sovel aka Mr. Shovel, Indie 103.1’s Music Director (he’s the guy you have to suck up to in order to have Indie play your demo). On Sunday you can listen to the show, but on Monday you can view it live at The Viper Room. Monday night at The Viper Room is Free with the guest list and brings to the West side of the Sunset Strip some of the best current L.A music. A Place To Bury Strangers have often been called "the loudest band in New York". This may very well be the case, but unlike much so-called "loud" rock and roll that's out there, APTBS is not loud simply for the sake of it. The sonically overdriven sound they've accomplished is no clumsy accident, but a carefully cultivated and well-maintained entity all its own, fostered by an unbridled passion that's clearly evident in every live show they play and each recording they make. A Place To Bury Strangers does not so much play songs as allow them to pour out. They are songs about longing, heartbreak and confusion played extremely well and at a passionately loud volume.

The Los Angeles band's debut finds singer Peter Walker's tired, weary and reverb-laden voice lamenting love-lost in direct, uncomplicated songs backed by strong, straightforward percussion and simple, pulsing bass lines. Eulogies is a diverse, though stunningly well-assembled, work of songcraft that highlights the band's ability to shift musical directions from pensive to poignant at moments notice. Coincidentally, the changes tug at heartstrings, leaving the listener to sort out a bag of mixed emotions without anything in the way of answers and closure.
