Cards, Courting, and Co-eds: A Valentine's Event (Event Over)

Event Over

On Saturday, February 14th join Heritage Square for a look at some of our most common Valentine's related activities and their origins. Come and spend some time learning about how cards became mass produced in the 1850s, courting etiquette for a young lady coming of age and the shift towards dating in the 1920s. The museum is open from 11:30 - 4:30. This is a one day event only.

A history of the Valentine’s Day card from hand-made declarations of affection to humorous expressions of friendship will be demonstrated in the Perry Residence. In the Hale House you can observe just a few of the formalities involved with courting. In contrast to the stiff rules of courting learn about the very informal dating practices of college co-eds of the 1920s.
