LACMA Muse in association with the Santa Monica Museum of Art presents an evening of art and jazz on Thursday, August 20th from 7-9pm, to celebrate the first ever painting retrospective of Barkley L. Hendricks. This will be the final week to catch Birth of the Cool before it travels to Philadelphia and finally, Houston.
After raving reviews of its run at the Studio Museum in Harlem, Barkley L. Hendricks: Birth of the Cool, Painting from 1964-2007 has opened at the Santa Monica Museum of Art to even more acclaim. Take advantage of this final chance to witness the work of one of the most important African American artists in history.
Singing virtuoso Kalil Wilson and Dan Marschak on the piano will perform a live jazz show to put you in the right frame of mind for perusing Hendricks' iconic, confrontational, life-size portraits of local African Americans in classic poses.
Open bar will feature Grolsch, Malibu Family Wines and cocktails.
Admission is free for LACMA Muse and SMMOA members, $10 for general public (ticket purchase at door).
